Last week, Pella of Omaha & Lincoln had the privilege of supporting an inspiring Open House event hosted by Omaha Public Schools (OPS) and their general contractor partner, Blair Freeman. The featured home—built in the Central Park neighborhood—stands as a shining example of what’s possible when education, community, and industry come together.
The project is part of OPS’s Builders of the Future program, an incredible initiative that provides high school students with hands-on experience in residential construction. Under the guidance of professionals, students take part in every stage of the home-building process—from framing to finishes. Once the home is complete, it is sold, and the proceeds fund the next student-led build. It’s a sustainable, real-world learning model that helps students explore careers in the skilled trades.
As part of our support, Pella of Omaha & Lincoln proudly donated the windows for this home. Executive team member Duane Putz visited the Open House and saw firsthand the pride and potential in these students. One student even shared that becoming an installer is now a career path he’s considering—exactly the kind of impact we love to see.
We also want to recognize our team members Hollie Schall, Architectural Representative, and Dave Sekera, Trade Sales Representative, for their outstanding contributions to this project.
A special thank-you to Dom Phillips of Construct Visions, who volunteered his time to mentor and assist the students during the window installation. His hands-on guidance was invaluable in showing what a career in the trades can look like.
Blair Freeman, Omaha’s only 100% woman-owned and operated general contracting and construction management firm, played a key role in leading this project. Their dedication to empowering youth and investing in communities made this partnership a perfect fit.
At Pella of Omaha & Lincoln, we are proud to support initiatives like Builders of the Future—programs that do more than build houses; they build confidence, skills, and a future workforce.
